The Broadlink remote is a disappointment. Expensive. Less reactive that Zigbee equivalents. Home Assistant requires a local IP to connect to it; however, the remote stops functionning if there’s no internet connectivity. Worse, it sends regular heartbeats to a mysterious server. Here’s a screenshot from Pihole. We can see the device tops the list of requests, well ahead of any other device or server in the house! Where’s that server? It is actually an Amazon server in Frankfort. Probably related to the fact that I registered the device as a European user when it was initialized. Morale of the story: favour cloud-free devices (and Zigbee devices always are!).
